The Protecting Our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society is pleased to announce that the Supreme Court of British Columbia has scheduled the hearing of our judicial review for June 19, 2026.
This hearing represents a critical stage in our effort to defend the functional integrity of Vancouver's public infrastructure — and to hold the City accountable to the democratic mandate approved by its voters.
Why This Hearing Matters
This case is about more than the technical specifications of a pool. If a municipality can obtain approval for one project and then deliver a significantly diminished version, the integrity of the plebiscite process is undermined. The revised petition narrows our case to a discrete and powerful judicial review issue: whether borrowing authority approved by Vancouver voters in the 2022 plebiscite for the renewal of a 50-metre aquatic facility can lawfully be used to remove it instead. The Society's position is straightforward: the law does not allow that. And we are now in court to prove it.
We look forward to presenting our arguments before the Supreme Court on June 19.
